A native of Miami, Florida, Danny Vega has been passionate about health and fitness his whole life. Growing up, his greatest passions were football, lifting weights, and later, performance nutrition. Nowadays, Danny’s main passions are his family and sharing all of the benefits of the ketogenic diet. He and his wife, Maura, try to lead by example and model the lifestyle they want for their boys by eating whole foods and exercising.
As a football player, Danny was the leading rusher in Miami-Dade county his senior year of high school, with 1816 yards in nine games. He received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Columbia University in 2004, where he was a member of the football team and a three-time Dean’s List recipient. Danny earned his Master's of Science in Human Performance from the University of Florida, where he worked with the national championship men’s basketball team along with women’s basketball, tennis, and golf programs.
Danny went on to become the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for VCU basketball, helping the Rams become the 2007 conference champions as well as advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament. His methods were highlighted in the Richmond Times Dispatch, and he has written articles for Iron Man magazine, Powerrackstrength.com, EliteFTS.com, and captainjacked.com. Over the past decade, Danny has coached everyone from high school and collegiate athletes, to professional boxers, powerlifters, weekend warriors, and everyday Joes.
Danny has competed as a 220-pound raw powerlifter with meet bests of 640 squat in wraps (610 raw), 400 bench, and 700 deadlift. He has run a half marathon, and also adventure races.
