Taryn battled food addiction from an early age. She started her first “diet” at 19 years old, which led to a spiral of yo-yo dieting throughout early adulthood. Among the various diets she has tried are some pretty famous names: Atkins, Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Beachbody, and 21-day fix.
After her son was born in 2009, Taryn lost 80 pounds through exercise and “clean eating.” Even though she was eating a so-called healthy diet- consisting of whole grains, fruit, some healthy fats, and lean proteins- she was MISERABLE. As soon as she stopped her diet, she gained it all back (and then some) over the course of the next year or so, and then got pregnant with her daughter. The next few years were tumultuous for Taryn. She went through a divorce, a new boyfriend- and then a nasty breakup- and surgery to remove her gallbladder.
In early July of 2015, she started thinking about going on yet another diet, after seeing pictures of herself that she says she found “horrifying.” She was a single mom and was also trying to date again… and it wasn’t going well. Her breaking point came while she was on a date: at the end of the night, her date casually mentioned how she “would be so much cuter if she were skinnier.”
Taryn started seriously looking for a solution.
Cutting carbs had worked for her in her college days, and so she began her search with the big name low carb diets: Atkins and South Beach. While Taryn was researching these low carb ways of eating, internet searches also returned information about the Ketogenic lifestyle, and she came upon the Ketovangelist website. It didn’t take long for her to realize that this could be an entirely new way of life!
Over the next twenty months, Taryn lost 102 pounds and over 100 inches through a combination of Ketogenic eating and a serious lifting/gym routine. Even though she had her gallbladder removed, she has had no trouble on this high fat way of eating, and loves being able to go shopping and wear high heels again!
Taryn lives in Boca Raton, Florida, and works for a medical software company as a medical illustrator. She loves educating people about the science of keto and has a passion for helping busy, working people make keto fit into their daily lives.
